Lodi Lifestyle Maternity Session | Sweet In-Home Belly Captures with the Bestie

Maternity Dark Black and White Lifestyle Image on Bed

Giana and I have been friends since we were first introduced on the phone. We hit it off immediately and back in the day, before we had our first cell-phones, spent hours on the land-line at a time. We are nearing the point where we've known each other for half of our lives... we have seen each other through a lot... and this pregnancy has been no different! I certainly loved watching her grow into a mommy in every way.

It is pretty exciting to watch your best friend begin a family... finally. I say that with all love and kindness... but it is about dang time huh? If you know these two - you probably think the hashtag coined back at their engagement and used at their wedding was pretty fitting: #cgfinally
Expanded to mean: Casey and Giana are FINALLY engaged, Casey and Giana are FINALLY getting married... and I was so amused when they kept it running: #cgfinallyhoneymoon #cgfinallydecorate  haha! It works so perfectly.

Now... #cgfinallyhaveababy.. and its about time that #CGFINALLYgetfeaturedontheVHPblogforthematernitysessionthathappened3monthsago haha!

They have put so much love into their first home, so when they suggested doing the maternity shoot as a lifestyle session - I was game! We worked to capture a bit of their life pre-baby and a little small glimpse of the prep that went into getting their home ready for their new addition. And plus, this meant we got to include the gloriousness that IS their bullmastif Parker. The official first child of this family.  <3

They live quite a distance from me in Lodi but that doesn't stop me from traveling all the way there for a session from lil ole Siskiyou County because... well. I wouldn't miss this! If you're a Lodi local feel free to hop on my email list to be ready to schedule a shoot next time I open up for bookings. I will always accept another reason to travel to visit these peeps!

Mt. Shasta Maternity Pictures and a Surprise Proposal!

I'm not sure why I have to use the word "Surprise" in the title. Usually proposals are surprises right? haha!
Shannon and Jonathan are on my calendar to follow this little baby's journey into the world. We did a gender reveal shoot  (You can see it here), this maternity shoot, and next we have a Fresh48 (squeee!! I'm excited for this... Do you know what a Fresh48 session is? In-Hospital session within the first 48 hours... often scheduled for me to arrive right before family comes to meet baby so that on top of all the freshness and newness we can get some sweet emotion too.), and then the newborn photoshoot!  I'm quite excited :) I love the belly to baby journey.
So we have had this tentatively on the calendar since we met up and booked the package, but we waited until things got closer to decide on a date. A couple months ago Jonathan wrote me and let me know his plans.. we came up with a pose that would be our signal... and let it roll.
Haha, poor guy - I had told him I'd try and do it in the middle of the shoot - but ended up not doing it until the very end. I was nervous I was going to blow it lol! Photographing proposals is so fun though.
He was going to give me a thumbs up once he was ready for me to ask them to turn around.. Luckily I didn't notice the thumbs up right away because right after that he dropped the ring! haha! You'll notice in the flow of photos that I included that (even tho it's slightly out of focus) because I just couldn't ignore including that moment! There is also one of Shannon laughing - because she was noticing all the shuffling... and she was about to turn around to see what the problem was! You just have to stand still and look forward dude! What is your deal!?
lol, anyway - thankfully he got down on that knee, she spun around looking up for him... She was indeed surprised with the moment thats for sure. It was very sweet to be a part of!

Thanks so much for including me in your moments you guys! Can't wait for the next session!

Hope you all enjoy!

And then comes the proposal...

Surprise! It's a...

I had the privilege of photographing a pregnancy/gender reveal! I really love this stuff! We had to create something do-able indoors though because the weather was terrible! I arrived to lots of balloons and Mamma, Daddy and Auntie already had everything ready!

GenderReveal

Up until 2013, I had worked with Shannon for almost 2 years. Toward the end of that time together, I stood with her in a barren break room as she uttered words that she never wanted to think might be true. She experienced one of the hardest losses anyone could endure. She has battled deep pain, and a long ride on an emotional rollercoaster since then, navigated and forged a new life with her 3 mostly-grown amazing kids.  While the grieving process never really ends, I'm so happy for this woman. She has strength beyond measure and doesn't hide her true self. A heart of gold, and without a doubt will stand fiercely to defend or fight for those she loves.

It is pretty special to see her at this new phase of life that includes so much joy and happiness.  Love you Shannon! I feel like you've had baby fever since I met you! Happy for you and Jonathan and the whole family! Thank you for allowing me to capture this for you, and can't wait for more of this little one's journey!!

And the moment you've all been waiting for... Well unless you know these two! Because they've already shared these ;)

Gender Reveal

This little boy is going to be very loved!

Couple Gender Reveal

Guess What?!

My good friend Mindy told me they are expecting their second baby on August 18! I haven't gotten to spend much time with her as of late! So when we finally had a chance to get together yesterday, the day after her latest ultrasound... I set up a fun little spot to get Big Brother in on the action of announcing his new baby sister (fingers crossed!)  ;) or brother (I could totally see them ending up with all boys)! This little man doesn't know just how much his life is about to change! haha! We were looking for 1 picture, with a shock or a oh no, or a gasp face... and what we got - turned out perfect! I just LOVED the progression of his expressions in how these worked out!! Congratulations John, Mindy and Robby!!

Robby: Guess what?!

Some Garnicks... {Maternity and Child Photography}

Garnicks!... well some of them at least...I stayed with them while i was there for this AZ trip!! :) Another birth I was bummed to miss out on though! *sigh* I've been shooting these guys since Natalie's newborn shoot! (I think we did newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year... and something else in between?)  So needless to say-  I was sad to miss the birth of Nicholas! Just by a couple of weeks. However, I was glad to be able to get a few pictures of Katie and that belly! I think Nicholas must have been laying straight out - head towards her back - and feet out towards the belly button! :) I think a few of us wondered if maybe... just maybe... a twin would arrive and surprise everyone :) ha! But no no.. Nicholas was just stretchin out in there I think! Natalie tried really hard to not smile at me throughout this little shoot... It didn't exactly work :) Enjoy!

Katie and Macey {Maternity and Child Photography}

Its about time I get a blog up on Katie and Macey! It took long enough to get a photo shoot in with these two! Last July - before we moved back here, I had come for a visit and done a shoot with Macey's little friend Emma... The shoot was planned to be of Macey and Emma, but Macey had a bad reaction to a mosquito bite and the poor girl had a big swollen puffy eye... so naturally mom decided to pass on a shoot at that time! When we moved back I know we had mentioned getting a shoot planned at some point.. and then finally - with only a few weeks to go before her 2nd baby's birth - we planned a maternity and family shoot... we changed dates a couple of times due to the weather, Then Katie got in a wreck and had a rash all over her face for a while... we played it by ear with weather again after that... and then SUDDENLY one day - the weather was clear and all was well.. Katie's husband was working but she opted to have just a maternity shoot and 3 year old birthday photos done of Macey ;) SO glad we fit it in!

She had her baby (a few days LATE) the next day!! Can you believe it!? Newborn shoot coming soon! :) Can't wait to meet Mr. Trenton!

Katie! you guys make perfect clients! The bond between you and Macey, plus Your beautiful pregnant belly and Macey with the patience of someone 10 times her age plus her ability to laugh hysterically on cue made for some of the most adorable pictures!

Here are some of my favorites! Can't wait to finish up this shoot and get them to you!! Most people dont get this many previews... JUST sayin!

My editing style is taking on a new process and I'm LOVING the results... So I have to share these!!

Enjoy!

Underwater Maternity Portraiture DEBUT!

So excited to finally be sharing these!!Oh. My. Word. Most experimental photography I've ever ventured into for sure. My dear friend Carrie... was certain she wanted to try something like this.... So we did! It was a LOT of work on both of our parts... shooting underwater, modeling underwater. Hard work I tell ya! This work in no way resembles my typical editing style or even composition really. With this experiemental session - It was pretty much - get what we can get! I'm pretty happy with the results and have SO many more ideas and lessons I took away from this shoot. Cant wait to try again! Anyone else for some experimentation! I know it'll just keep getting better and better!  Have a look! Unlike any other shoot - I'm actually posting the good and the bad... for the most part. Everything that was worth using is here.. Because it was an experiment - I dont mind letting you all see the out of focus... and odd compositions - Like I said -I'll take what I can get because it was SO SO Awesome  and Makes me want to try again even more! :)

Where have I been??

EVERYWHERE! I've been back to Phoenix mostly though! I have a LOT of editing to catch up on - a couple old shoots that I never finished due to my trip BACK to Phoenix shortly after moving into our new house... *sigh* Busy Busy..So before I delve into finishing those up - I picked 2 to 3 previews from each shoot I did while in Phoenix to hold some of you over :) So here they are! Lots more to come, *probably* more previews of each session will be up in the coming weeks: Enjoy! I love that I have so many returning faces in this set of shoots!! <3 feeling the love from my clients for sure!

Anyone Remember the sleepy newborn baby boy with the blue beanie on? Here he is again 6 months later!

Next is the quickest turn around client I've ever had! My last post was of Mia! This is her birthday shoot and her big brother, Damien who is quite the cutie himself! ;) ! The cake shes enjoying in the last picture is precious! She kept having fits of excitement when the sugar finally kicked in:

Next: My fam :D My sister DeAnna and her family :) They recently moved out of their downtown historic home into a house with lots of room outside! They've got horses, chickens, a dog, a bearded dragon, and a bird! Phew.. along with the occasional wild life visitors! They're certainly embracing their life in the "Country" ;)

A special congratulations to Melissa and Chris! The main reason why this trip was necessary! 9.10.11 marked a special day for these two! And I was so excited to be a part of it!! Can't wait to share more!

Their wedding party was a lot of fun!! Love this shot because it displays the personality of the group so well!! <3 And my favorite shot of the day... I'm pretty sure.. Is actually credit of my second shooter McKenna!! Thanks for helpin out girl!! This shot is seriously one of my favorites out of ALL of them! And Melissa - YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL! Nicole.. Regarding my move to California...I think is one of the most disappointed clients :) She was quite excited to do newborn shots when her little one comes along.. Buuut - we did get a maternity shoot in - Which I was SO happy with!! Can't wait to share more of those too :D So many good shots - the location and the clouds were working so well for me that day - that I brought my next client/friend :D to the same place!! <3 Carrie :D Can't wait for that special boy #2 to be born!! They've been through a lot! And he will be making his appearance by scheduled c-section - Which is when my NEXT trip to Phoenix is being based around :) *end of October* We can only Hope that ^Nicole's^ Baby comes early and she can still get a newborn shoot in while I'm there :)

AHH Love these two! Got a TON of amazing shots of this brother/sister combo! <3 Thanks Melissa for letting me capture your kiddos! Middle of the day on my next to last day in Phoenix... Carrie and I entered into an awesome experiment!! Underwater Maternity.. Oh. My. Word! AMAZING. A TON of work... for both of us... But I hope to get better at this!! CAN NOT WAIT for a chance to do a full blog post on this to share more! Finally! Night before I left I finished up my shoots :) You may recognize these 3 cuties!

Busy Bee!

Thats me! Oi! So busy! This move is coming up in 1 week! And we are not even close to being done with packing! Its barely started! PLUS I'm trying to fit some shoots in before I go, and would LIKE to get all the editing done before I leave.. *sigh* I will say though - having this established clientele here is going to make visiting here financed by photo-shoots much easier than visiting other places I've been and tried to finance with shoots... Elsewhere I have some interest... and generally rely on Facebook *marketing* and on others to really do the drumming up for me...  But here, I already have clientele... only a years worth but its still more than need-to-be-drummed-up type clientele. And with Fall coming up - a lot of people are ready for their second (or third or fourth!!) go-round with me... with the news of moving - I have had a lot of  "OH NO! I wanted to get a shoot in with you before the holidays..." or "But I'm having a baby! You need to be here!"  or "Now I have to find a new photographer..."It feels SO wonderful to see and hear elation when I say "But I'm going to be here and scheduling shoots for a week in September, A week at the end of October, and most likely a week at the end of January 2012. "

So in the next few days I will be sitting down scheduling shoots for A week (dates not exactly nailed down yet) surrounding the weekend of September 10th And for a week surrounding October 28th

I'll have to take non-refundable deposits, which is not what I normally do... But I'll need to purchase my air-fair with the money I make from these shoots... There for - with the way plane tickets work... will need to be in my hand BEFORE the shoot! :) So keep this in mind!! And contact me if you're interested in a shoot for September or October! I already have a TON of requests... Just have to get the dates nailed down - so if you want a spot... let me know!

Anyway - onto the REASON for this blog! To share with you what kept me busy yesterday morning! (and tonight with a little editing :) In the heat of the AZ morning... 2 shoots!!

Happy Happy 2 year old!! She wore herself out quick though! It was so Hot!!

^One of my FAVORITES for sure! Her smile.. her laugh - her eyes.. GAH shes so cute!

And across town to a maternity shoot!! (The mom-to-be is a friend I met ONLINE... crazy huh? lol ;) I love Baby Gaga... just FYI)
