Take a look at the early days of VHP! They were prodded and prompted by others. Thankful for the growth and the support through the years to continue improving!Read More

2 Things: 1- A new look will be rolling out soon for VHP! and 2 - I love Pinterest. lolI suppose its thanks to Pinterest that people are constantly "overthinking" photo shoots, and doing up styles and themes! I still often and mostly shoot the standard, but once in a while a client... usually a friend - will join with me in making sure we have lots of good, or a few of the perfect, props and setting pieces and we create something spectacular! Over the last couple of weeks I've had 2 shoots like this that just turned out so beautifully with just a few accents!
Maybe its the whole blanket theme that makes it work? I don't know.. its just perfect! - I will say these are probably two of my favorite shoots ever! And they just fell into place perfectly!
Wow, I haven't officially been working my photography business for almost a year - but as I'm compiling some photos to show you what I've been up to in the mean time, I realized I certainly stayed busy enough for being "out." I seemed to take shoots on ANYWAY - despite not promoting at all. I kiiinda have a little problem with saying no ;) Life is going going going as always! We've moved (yes again, this time locally), we're expecting baby number 2 in June! And we've both been working full time! I recently went back down to working only 3 days a week at my "real job" - to save on daycare and gas costs! And am now I'm using that time to take care of our home and coming back to my business!
Being in this profession can be rough in a small town, There are a lot of photographers out there... But! It'll be just fine :) I take pride in doing my best to create something with an extra "umph" and a bit of "something different." And those looking for what I offer, will be happy with that!
I believe it was last summer that I posted any full preview sets... (A couple weddings, and some senior portraits) So the photos to follow are a bit of everything since that time.
Little miss Lillian... So serious! In front of the camera at least! :) I had this adorable face featured before... also mostly serious though! Silly girl! She has such gorgeous eyes and lips though - the serious look works for her!It was great exploring Heritage Square with these three! Per Lillian - we pretty much followed the cats around the whole time :) Oooh! A hint of a smile! As I remind all clients: Please remember, you will receive a disc of your photos with no logo on them. Please do not crop out or hide logos (even when using as a profile picture on Facebook). Feel free to share these pictures, the blog post, etc… These are meant to hold you over while waiting for your disc – Encouraged use: sharing, using as profile pictures, tagging friends.. etc
My first shoot of the phoenix trip!I've been honored to have these kiddos in front of the camera quite a few times! Faith has always been ready and willing to smile and pose! Ethan took a bit more convincing... This time, was fabulous though! I did some shots of Faith, the avid dancer, in some dance move/poses... which was fun :) Something I haven't really done before - I love that you can see how much she loves it! And then did some portraits of Ethan.. OH my heart. He warmed right on up this time! May have helped that he had just seen me a week or two before at his Aunty's wedding :) Anyway - wanted to share on the blog!! <3
So - the awaited preview is here!! This bride and groom provided quite a fun wedding :) The whole group was SO happy, fun, carefree, energetic... yet the whole wedding day had such a sweet, romantic tone...Carly wore her mamma's dress, they got married in the same church her parents did... And by the way... Carly and John have SUCH a sweet relationship to watch! There were so many different moments between them.. they're silly goofy friends, and oh so loving and romantic! :) Its sweet to see both sides :)
Hope you enjoy your preview Carly and John! <3 As I remind all clients: Please remember, you will receive a disc of all photos with no logo on them. Please do not crop out or hide logos (even when using as a profile picture on Facebook). Feel free to share these pictures and this blog post, They are also on Facebook for sharing, using as profile pictures, tagging friends.. etc.
This soon-coming baby boy was still nameless as of the day we did our shoot!Momma is glowing though and you can just feel their excitement... ready welcome their little man into the world!! Can't wait to meet him Jennifer! Whatever his name may be :) We met at the park for a beautiful morning mini-shoot! <3 quite happy with the results! Enjoy your sneak peek!
I'm busy getting a list of bookings together for my next Phoenix trip, and getting
Excited about the repeat clients that make these trips possible! I'll be booked up with clients with babies I've had the privelage of shooting since before they were born! Plus more kiddos, families, and couples. Feeling so blessed to have clients that love me back enough to trust me with capturing thier memories even tho I'm only in Phoenix once or twice a year!
Loved the moss on the rail of this old deck... Thought it was a perfect spot for a ring shot... so I used my own ;) <3Just wanted to share, fell in love with the old time mono tone sepia look.. but didn't want to loose the lovely colors in this photo... can't decide, use both! For those interested: 70mm ISO 125 1/60 sec at f/2.8
Thats me! Oi! So busy! This move is coming up in 1 week! And we are not even close to being done with packing! Its barely started! PLUS I'm trying to fit some shoots in before I go, and would LIKE to get all the editing done before I leave.. *sigh* I will say though - having this established clientele here is going to make visiting here financed by photo-shoots much easier than visiting other places I've been and tried to finance with shoots... Elsewhere I have some interest... and generally rely on Facebook *marketing* and on others to really do the drumming up for me... But here, I already have clientele... only a years worth but its still more than need-to-be-drummed-up type clientele. And with Fall coming up - a lot of people are ready for their second (or third or fourth!!) go-round with me... with the news of moving - I have had a lot of "OH NO! I wanted to get a shoot in with you before the holidays..." or "But I'm having a baby! You need to be here!" or "Now I have to find a new photographer..."It feels SO wonderful to see and hear elation when I say "But I'm going to be here and scheduling shoots for a week in September, A week at the end of October, and most likely a week at the end of January 2012. "
So in the next few days I will be sitting down scheduling shoots for A week (dates not exactly nailed down yet) surrounding the weekend of September 10th And for a week surrounding October 28th
I'll have to take non-refundable deposits, which is not what I normally do... But I'll need to purchase my air-fair with the money I make from these shoots... There for - with the way plane tickets work... will need to be in my hand BEFORE the shoot! :) So keep this in mind!! And contact me if you're interested in a shoot for September or October! I already have a TON of requests... Just have to get the dates nailed down - so if you want a spot... let me know!
Anyway - onto the REASON for this blog! To share with you what kept me busy yesterday morning! (and tonight with a little editing :) In the heat of the AZ morning... 2 shoots!!
And across town to a maternity shoot!! (The mom-to-be is a friend I met ONLINE... crazy huh? lol ;) I love Baby Gaga... just FYI)
Vanessa - Seriously - I think you look like Christina Ricci!
Thanks for looking!! :D
So... I don't think it's new news that Melissa and Chris are engaged :) To people that know them at least... But to ME, I have only really known them a short time. Just met Chris for the first time at the shoot in fact!We met up at a really beautiful lake front park area that is used for a membership facility for seniors. Both Chris and Melissa's grandparents live there... so it shouldn't have been a problem. After our first round of the area with their 1st outfits...Chris went to get Melissa's change of clothes and the office attendants saw us and had a big fit. *rolling my eyes remembering the situation* We lost out on the casual pictures at the lake... But.. we still ended up with a good time and some great shots for casuals at the park down the road :) Melissa and Chris are getting married in September and I can't wait for their wedding! Thought I'd share some of my favorites from their session. Enjoy!
Mike and Tabi... Tabi and Mike... They help our world go round :)Dear friends we RARELY get to see anymore because WE moved... and they haven't followed us... yet? yet.
Oi. The first shoot I did with them over a year ago... They loved.. and I did at the time.. but my work has improved so much! I don't mean to gloat.. but I am SO much happier with the images from this shoot!! So I call this... Take 2 :)
I'm not quite done yet - but I wanted to get a sneak peak up for them of my favorites :D :D PS.. a fair warning, the little ones stole the show :)
So thats that! Looking forward to Take 3 next year :) Or next visit... which ever happens first! LOVE YOU GUYS!
Yesterday I had the privilege of shooting the Roat family! Kathy works with my husband, Garrett, and contacted me a month or two ago... She and her husband (and his siblings and their spouses) wanted to do a photo shoot for his parents for Christmas. [I'll skip the scheduling mayhem from before Christmas, Kathy :)] They surprised them with the plan on Christmas, and picked a date! That date was yesterday afternoon!I met with them at a park downtown... and Oh boy... I walked up to this GROUP of people... Not hard to find :) lol. Now before hand I KNEW it was Kathy and her family (husband, and 2 kids) and his parents, 2 siblings, and their spouses.... But when I walked up - that looked like a lot more than I was expecting... I have to learn all these names....Here we go! It was really fun though! I learned that for the most part... in shots of 8 adults and 2 kids...when the 2 kids are actually looking at the camera (smiling or not) someone else is either blinking, half blinking (because the eyes are still partway open you may suspect is BETTER than a full blink.... um. yeah. its not. ;) ) or looking somewhere else... DESPITE all that :) I think we did pretty good!
Enjoy your preview Roat Family! Hopefully this holds you over until I get back from vacation and edit the rest of your lots-o-photos :)
Atticus was "done" thru most of the shoot :) But his attention was drawn when the discussion of his prize for after the shoot came up... This was just as the pouting was over... "Hmm? Prize? OH Yeah!"
Hope you enjoyed!
Sitting here with my coffee... contemplating the things I have to get done today - I decided to get a quick post in. Coffee in hand, some editing in the works... my devotions are over, workout is done, breakfast is done, little one fed, dressed and entertained.. I have a few minutes before I get started on surface cleaning, laundry and working on finding a babysitter for my shoot today!I'm sorry to those of you that still check up on my blog that I haven't been keeping up with my it! I keep telling myself that I KNOW that this is basically what you see of mine if you find me just through a business card! I prefer people check out my work on Facebook because its so much easier to keep recent shoot examples up on there! (hence all the redirection there when you go looking for portfolio examples!) I'm hoping to roll out a new and better website soon after the first of the year... so we'll see how that goes. I like the idea of a blog and keeping you all updated on my shoots, sharing more photos than I do on Facebook... but at the same time its more complicated to get all that up on here... anyway, enough complaining! I'll keep trying, keep plugging away! I've been quite busy! My business has been loaded with sessions because everyone is trying to get them done for holiday photos. I admit I'm a HUGE procrastinator... but its kind of nice to know I'm not the only one!! haha. Last year I KNEW I was going to avoid the holiday procrastination thing... and I ordered my holiday cards early - then as I slowly got them written out... with a little personal note on each... they sat in my desk drawer waiting to be addressed, stamped, and mailed... They sat there and waited... and waited.... haha, June or July came around and they still hadn't gotten mailed out.. And for what!?? Such a procrastinator, I am! I'm really trying to get more organized so I can be more productive! Along with that - my little family and I are beginning to try to adjust our home life to a better schedule. We operate so much better, and more productively when we start our days out right, so our morning routine is set, and its been TRYING to get put in motion - but hasn't quite gotten there yet... :) However we have been eating more sit-down meals at home... I'm starting to cook and prepare a little more, and keep nutrition in focus!! Anyway, enough about my pursuits of better domesticity - Thought I'd share a few of my favorite shots from sessions over the last few months :)
