Wow, I haven't officially been working my photography business for almost a year - but as I'm compiling some photos to show you what I've been up to in the mean time, I realized I certainly stayed busy enough for being "out." I seemed to take shoots on ANYWAY - despite not promoting at all. I kiiinda have a little problem with saying no ;) Life is going going going as always! We've moved (yes again, this time locally), we're expecting baby number 2 in June! And we've both been working full time! I recently went back down to working only 3 days a week at my "real job" - to save on daycare and gas costs! And am now I'm using that time to take care of our home and coming back to my business!
Being in this profession can be rough in a small town, There are a lot of photographers out there... But! It'll be just fine :) I take pride in doing my best to create something with an extra "umph" and a bit of "something different." And those looking for what I offer, will be happy with that!
I believe it was last summer that I posted any full preview sets... (A couple weddings, and some senior portraits) So the photos to follow are a bit of everything since that time.
Garnicks!... well some of them at least...I stayed with them while i was there for this AZ trip!! :) Another birth I was bummed to miss out on though! *sigh* I've been shooting these guys since Natalie's newborn shoot! (I think we did newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year... and something else in between?) So needless to say- I was sad to miss the birth of Nicholas! Just by a couple of weeks. However, I was glad to be able to get a few pictures of Katie and that belly! I think Nicholas must have been laying straight out - head towards her back - and feet out towards the belly button! :) I think a few of us wondered if maybe... just maybe... a twin would arrive and surprise everyone :) ha! But no no.. Nicholas was just stretchin out in there I think! Natalie tried really hard to not smile at me throughout this little shoot... It didn't exactly work :) Enjoy!
The much anticipated Crosley! Tarah worked with my husband, and introduced us to the apartments we lived in our second year in Phoenix (Utilities included is the way to go in Phoenix let me tell you! AC on ALL the time!...) so we lived in the same building for a while! I was bummed to find out that Tarah and Jared were expecting their first little one so close to us moving away!! But timing has lined up okay :) My first or second visit back to Phoenix after the move when she was pregnant was just in time for their gender reveal photos... :) We got a little time in for some pictures of him while I was there :) Its too bad that I dont know Crosley a little better... He was a fun little guy to spend a time with!! Miss you guys!Such a cutie :) Enjoy the few previews!

Sweet brother and sister duo here! <3 We met early the morning before I left town... and boy it was nice to get out and get a shoot done before it warmed up! I some how lucked out during my visit to Phoenix! Smack-dab-in-the-middle-of June it was still cooler than 85 or so in the mornings. So the morning air and light was awesome :) Apparently Kacie brings the kiddos here often, so Grant was right at home, running around - putting on shows and such... letting us know where to go next ;) It was great! They are such great kiddos! We were done with the mandatory shots we needed to get within the first 20 min! Easy Peasy! Everything after that was simple explore and capture! Which often works out quite well with little ones :)We had a great time! Enjoy the previews!! Little miss Lillian... So serious! In front of the camera at least! :) I had this adorable face featured before... also mostly serious though! Silly girl! She has such gorgeous eyes and lips though - the serious look works for her!It was great exploring Heritage Square with these three! Per Lillian - we pretty much followed the cats around the whole time :) Oooh! A hint of a smile! As I remind all clients: Please remember, you will receive a disc of your photos with no logo on them. Mia was a huge hit on my blog when we first met her! At 6 months? 8 months? Some where around there... she wasn't crawling.. She just sat in one place and was so happy! I saw her and her brother Damien again around her first birthday and she was on the move a bit more... This time though.. She was on the move for sure! Constant go go go!We had her brother and her baby cousin with us too! Fun shoot... went quickly! And I'm always glad to feature returning clients! <3 Enjoy your quick preview!

I met Tasha when she was around 12 I think? :) I was just 17 or 18 myself... helping out with the Jr. High Youth at the church we went to :)Now she has little Ben! <3 Time flies!! He was so cute! A quick busy little guy - but so cute!! Its probably a good thing we just did a mini shoot ;) His still-ness didn't seem to last long! Granted I think it was 105 outside :) As I remind all clients: Please remember, you will receive a disc of your photos with no logo on them. I missed out on Will as a newborn because he was born after we moved away :( BUT I had the honor of shooting this bright eyed boy at 6 months old! He is so cute!!I will say - he wasn't too sure about sitting in the grass too much! So we got some fun stuff right in the beginning :) But it wasn't a problem!! He was so easy to photograph that we got our mandatory shots in right away! Didn't take long at all!! :) I met Merissa (Will's mamma) a couple of years ago through my hubby's best friend :) Glad we connected! Will was a joy to be around! Even if it was just for a short time! :) Can't wait for the next visit! :) Thanks Merissa and Wilson for allowing me to capture you two with your little man at this fun memorable age!! <3

My first shoot of the phoenix trip!I've been honored to have these kiddos in front of the camera quite a few times! Faith has always been ready and willing to smile and pose! Ethan took a bit more convincing... This time, was fabulous though! I did some shots of Faith, the avid dancer, in some dance move/poses... which was fun :) Something I haven't really done before - I love that you can see how much she loves it! And then did some portraits of Ethan.. OH my heart. He warmed right on up this time! May have helped that he had just seen me a week or two before at his Aunty's wedding :) Anyway - wanted to share on the blog!! <3
So - the awaited preview is here!! This bride and groom provided quite a fun wedding :) The whole group was SO happy, fun, carefree, energetic... yet the whole wedding day had such a sweet, romantic tone...Carly wore her mamma's dress, they got married in the same church her parents did... And by the way... Carly and John have SUCH a sweet relationship to watch! There were so many different moments between them.. they're silly goofy friends, and oh so loving and romantic! :) Its sweet to see both sides :)
Hope you enjoy your preview Carly and John! <3 As I remind all clients: Please remember, you will receive a disc of all photos with no logo on them. I just LOVE seeing unbreakable bonds and this family has just that :) A few family portraits and then a full shoot of Breezi - the recently graduated sister :) I had a great time with them... They even tried to give me the most adorable puppy ever. Which I turned down, but Stormi had fallen in love already - so SHE kept her... :) I thinks she's grateful :) anyway - I digress. I had a great time during this shoot!! Breezi was excited about getting her senior pictures done, which makes it even more fun... I could have kept shooting all day!
This soon-coming baby boy was still nameless as of the day we did our shoot!Momma is glowing though and you can just feel their excitement... ready welcome their little man into the world!! Can't wait to meet him Jennifer! Whatever his name may be :) We met at the park for a beautiful morning mini-shoot! <3 quite happy with the results! Enjoy your sneak peek!
I had the privilege of capturing this precious family with their new adorable addition, Trenton. Welcome to the world baby Trenton! At just 12 days new, he made such a cute model! I especially loved all his hair!! Once asleep - this little guy did great! He made me work for these pictures, I'll wont lie ;) Bit of a light sleeper! We had to keep it simple for this sweet boy :) But its okay, he worked it! <3 It is way too easy to fall in love with babies! Just sayin!
June will mark 2 years since I decided to listen to people that liked my photos of their kids, and my kid ;) and dive into trying to "become" a photographer!
June will be 2 years in business! More on that in June - but I wanted to post :)
This is Brooke in June 2010 at about 18 months old, And Just yesterday at age 3 1/2 :) We've both grown! As you can easily tell in these photos :)
“Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.”
Can't tell you how inspiring Lidia with Oh So Posh Photography is....She is one of the most real and inspiring "big names" in the blogging slash Facebook world of photographers.... She has over 40,000 fans on Facebook and she manages to stay real, personal and connected. Tons of photographers know of her because of the striking photos and edits she produces! She sells her Photoshop actions and I'm a new owner of them :) I knew I'd have a learning curve...I struggled at first because I edit 95% in Lightroom .. I'm SO comfortable with my work flow in LR and only dabble in CS5 when I need to... And I'm cool with using it for Logos or design stuff.. but anyway - blah blah - I'm going to change that thanks to Lidia and her awesome actions! I found my niche when playing with the actions... needless to say - I'm really excited.... I have much more "playing" and practicing to do... but I LOVE this first result! Here is a before and after.... The before is SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera)- My original edit of this (the one delivered to my client) wasn't too far off of this... simply because I really loved the SOOC (Loving SOOC is what I work towards... And I accomplished that in this)... so it was enhanced a just little upped the blacks, popped the color and contrast a little... If I had nothing else going on in my life I"d sit down and re-edit from all my past shoots! <3 haha. Anyway - on with the show! This was a simple combo of Carnival Lights and Moroccan Spice and i tweaked some parts of it - Its not extravagant... nothing looks fake or over done.... It just has SUCH a gorgeous glow and pop to it! Plus it helps that Aly is BEAUTIFUL!
PS - Here is a Plug! Aly is a 2012 Senior graduating this year <3 She was going to be a 2012 senior rep but because we moved back to this area after school started, and didn't even get this shoot in until late in the year - pretty much all her friends had their Senior Pictures done already... I was late to the Senior Pictures game this year! But I'm getting an early start for 2013 seniors!!! If you're interested in being a 2013 Senior Rep - Click here to Fill out the Senior Rep Application! You can get your Sr Pics for Free as well as earn awesome prizes! I'll be announcing the 4 reps April 18th!
EVERYWHERE! I've been back to Phoenix mostly though! I have a LOT of editing to catch up on - a couple old shoots that I never finished due to my trip BACK to Phoenix shortly after moving into our new house... *sigh* Busy Busy..So before I delve into finishing those up - I picked 2 to 3 previews from each shoot I did while in Phoenix to hold some of you over :) So here they are! Lots more to come, *probably* more previews of each session will be up in the coming weeks: Enjoy! I love that I have so many returning faces in this set of shoots!! <3 feeling the love from my clients for sure!
Next is the quickest turn around client I've ever had! My last post was of Mia! This is her birthday shoot and her big brother, Damien who is quite the cutie himself! ;) ! The cake shes enjoying in the last picture is precious! She kept having fits of excitement when the sugar finally kicked in:
Next: My fam :D My sister DeAnna and her family :) They recently moved out of their downtown historic home into a house with lots of room outside! They've got horses, chickens, a dog, a bearded dragon, and a bird! Phew.. along with the occasional wild life visitors! They're certainly embracing their life in the "Country" ;)
A special congratulations to Melissa and Chris! The main reason why this trip was necessary! 9.10.11 marked a special day for these two! And I was so excited to be a part of it!! Can't wait to share more!
Their wedding party was a lot of fun!! Love this shot because it displays the personality of the group so well!! <3 And my favorite shot of the day... I'm pretty sure.. Is actually credit of my second shooter McKenna!! Thanks for helpin out girl!! This shot is seriously one of my favorites out of ALL of them! And Melissa - YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL! Nicole.. Regarding my move to California...I think is one of the most disappointed clients :) She was quite excited to do newborn shots when her little one comes along.. Buuut - we did get a maternity shoot in - Which I was SO happy with!! Can't wait to share more of those too :D So many good shots - the location and the clouds were working so well for me that day - that I brought my next client/friend :D to the same place!! <3 Carrie :D Can't wait for that special boy #2 to be born!! They've been through a lot! And he will be making his appearance by scheduled c-section - Which is when my NEXT trip to Phoenix is being based around :) *end of October* We can only Hope that ^Nicole's^ Baby comes early and she can still get a newborn shoot in while I'm there :)
AHH Love these two! Got a TON of amazing shots of this brother/sister combo! <3 Thanks Melissa for letting me capture your kiddos! Middle of the day on my next to last day in Phoenix... Carrie and I entered into an awesome experiment!! Underwater Maternity.. Oh. My. Word! AMAZING. A TON of work... for both of us... But I hope to get better at this!! CAN NOT WAIT for a chance to do a full blog post on this to share more! Finally! Night before I left I finished up my shoots :) You may recognize these 3 cuties!
I have wanted to participate in an IHF fix-it-friday or photo challenge for a while.. but I always seem to have some shoot I should be catching up on instead. :) Not today... well okay - thats not entirely true. I do have some photos to finish from a shoot I did with family a while back that have been placed on the back burner. But I also need to get a blog in to keep those of you happy that are on the edge of your seat, waiting for the next blog entry! *haha*
Anyway - over at I Heart Faces, if you aren't familiar with them... check it out - Amazing photo tutorials... awesome guest contributors to learn from.. fun contests, Fridays with SOOC images to fix up and play with! Glad I'm finally getting around to participating instead of lurking!
So here is today's Fix-It-Friday Original Image:
So my I cropped it in a little closer, and then I went through and kinda did the same ole, that I usually do. (I use Lightroom 3 by the way) I decided not to do anything that I dont usually do with photos this being my first FIF week :)
Bumped up the exposure because I LOVE Images that are a bit over exposed. Not always, but when it comes to close ups on kids faces. OMG. Yes. My favorite :) Warmed up the temperature JUST a bit... to +2 and brought up the contrast also JUST a tad bit to +5
Now - the tad bit adjustment thing is something I've really worked on in the last year. I used to kind of.... Over do things I guess you could say. I was un-sure about my photographic capabilities and somewhat covered up what I wasn't sure of, with over edits.I like contrasty images, so BAM contrast = +100 I've certainly learned better. And now i'm MUCH more confidant in the photo as it sits. :) and my editing is a lot more little tweaks than cover-ups ;)
Anyway - continuing on... I couldn't help but use the brush tool to brighten those GORGEOUS eyes! (within the tool I brought up the exposure a little, the saturation a LITTLE, and the clarity a LITTLE)
I played with the tone curve levels... afterwards... to finish it off - Highlights -11 Lights -5 Darks +13 Shadows -25
Can't forget my favorite: rounded corners border :)
So here it is:
I like to keep my same edit when doing black and white - and just remove the saturation (sometimes that takes a few tweaks after the saturation is gone... but this time I think it still looks pretty great) : So heres that look
Everything is the same except the saturation is down to -100
