work

Back in action!

Wow, I haven't officially been working my photography business for almost a year - but as I'm compiling some photos to show you what I've been up to in the mean time, I realized I certainly stayed busy enough for being "out."  I seemed to take shoots on ANYWAY - despite not promoting at all. I kiiinda have a little problem with saying no ;) Life is going going going as always! We've moved (yes again, this time locally), we're expecting baby number 2 in June! And we've both been working full time! I recently went back down to working only 3 days a week at my "real job"  - to save on daycare and gas costs! And am now I'm using that time to take care of our home and coming back to my business!

Being in this profession can be rough in a small town, There are a lot of photographers out there... But! It'll be just fine :) I take pride in doing my best to create something with an extra "umph" and a bit of "something different." And those looking for what I offer, will be happy with that!

I believe it was last summer that I posted any full preview sets... (A couple weddings, and some senior portraits) So the photos to follow are a bit of everything since that time.

Don't forget to check out what I offer and what to expect for investment in the "Prices" tab. And enjoy staying up to date with me on by liking Valisa Henderson Photography on Facebook!

Busy Bee!

Thats me! Oi! So busy! This move is coming up in 1 week! And we are not even close to being done with packing! Its barely started! PLUS I'm trying to fit some shoots in before I go, and would LIKE to get all the editing done before I leave.. *sigh* I will say though - having this established clientele here is going to make visiting here financed by photo-shoots much easier than visiting other places I've been and tried to finance with shoots... Elsewhere I have some interest... and generally rely on Facebook *marketing* and on others to really do the drumming up for me...  But here, I already have clientele... only a years worth but its still more than need-to-be-drummed-up type clientele. And with Fall coming up - a lot of people are ready for their second (or third or fourth!!) go-round with me... with the news of moving - I have had a lot of  "OH NO! I wanted to get a shoot in with you before the holidays..." or "But I'm having a baby! You need to be here!"  or "Now I have to find a new photographer..."It feels SO wonderful to see and hear elation when I say "But I'm going to be here and scheduling shoots for a week in September, A week at the end of October, and most likely a week at the end of January 2012. "

So in the next few days I will be sitting down scheduling shoots for A week (dates not exactly nailed down yet) surrounding the weekend of September 10th And for a week surrounding October 28th

I'll have to take non-refundable deposits, which is not what I normally do... But I'll need to purchase my air-fair with the money I make from these shoots... There for - with the way plane tickets work... will need to be in my hand BEFORE the shoot! :) So keep this in mind!! And contact me if you're interested in a shoot for September or October! I already have a TON of requests... Just have to get the dates nailed down - so if you want a spot... let me know!

Anyway - onto the REASON for this blog! To share with you what kept me busy yesterday morning! (and tonight with a little editing :) In the heat of the AZ morning... 2 shoots!!

Fix-it-Friday with I Heart Faces!

I have wanted to participate in an IHF fix-it-friday or photo challenge for a while.. but I always seem to have some shoot I should be catching up on instead.  :) Not today... well okay - thats not entirely true. I do have some photos to finish from a shoot I did with family a while back that have been placed on the back burner. But I also need to get a blog in to keep those of you happy that are on the edge of your seat, waiting for the next blog entry! *haha*

Anyway - over at I Heart Faces, if you aren't familiar with them... check it out - Amazing photo tutorials... awesome guest contributors to learn from.. fun contests, Fridays with SOOC images to  fix up and play with! Glad I'm finally getting around to participating instead of lurking!

So here is today's Fix-It-Friday Original Image:

So my I cropped it in a little closer, and then I went through and kinda did the same ole, that I usually do. (I use Lightroom 3 by the way) I decided not to do anything that I dont usually do with photos this being my first FIF week :)

Bumped up the exposure because I LOVE Images that are a bit over exposed. Not always, but when it comes to close ups on kids faces. OMG. Yes. My favorite :) Warmed up the temperature JUST a bit... to +2 and brought up the contrast also JUST a tad bit to +5

Now - the tad bit adjustment thing is something I've really worked on in the last year. I used to kind of.... Over do things I guess you could say. I was un-sure about my photographic capabilities and somewhat covered up what I wasn't sure of, with over edits.I like contrasty images, so BAM contrast = +100 I've certainly learned better.  And now i'm MUCH more confidant in the photo as it sits. :) and my editing is a lot more little tweaks than cover-ups ;)

Anyway - continuing on... I couldn't help but use the brush tool to brighten those GORGEOUS eyes! (within the tool I brought up the exposure a little, the saturation a LITTLE, and the clarity a LITTLE)

I played with the tone curve levels... afterwards... to finish it off - Highlights   -11 Lights  -5 Darks  +13 Shadows   -25

Can't forget my favorite: rounded corners border :)

So here it is:

I like to keep my same edit when doing black and white - and just remove the saturation (sometimes that takes a few tweaks after the saturation is gone... but this time I think it still looks pretty great) : So heres that look

Everything is the same except the saturation is down to -100
